September 2014 Meeting Reminder
Fellow Woodturners, Our next meeting of the Classic City Woodturners is Tuesday, September 2, 2014 beginning at 6 PM at the Lyndon House Art Center, 293 Hoyt Street, Athens, GA. We have a special treat this month for our demonstrator – it is our own Jim Talley. He plans a two fold demo. First, will be a demonstration of the turning of Christmas Ornaments from the simple to the more difficult. This will get you in the mood to begin turning your own Christmas Ornaments in preparation for the club Christmas Party on Monday, December 15, 2014. Also, the club is planning a project to raise funds for the Food Bank of North East Georgia by selling your turned and donated Christmas Ornaments during the Lickskillet Artists Market at the Lyndon House Art Center on October 25,2014. Second, everyone is asked to bring a turned item that didn’t turn out as anticipated. He will discuss some possible ways to correct or enhance these “mistakes” to save the piece. He will also discuss any specific tools you may be having trouble with or questions about. So, bring your questions, problem turnings, wood and tools. Jim will be at the Melting Point at 4:45 for dinner if you would like to converse with him. We also need help beginning at 5:30 PM to help set-up for the meeting.
We mention again that Club Officer nominations for 2015 are being sought, specifically President and Vice President. Club Officer positions and duties are listed in the Club By Laws at http://classiccitywoodturners.comabout-ccw/bylaws/. Also, at the web page current and upcoming events are posted. Bookmark this page and refer to it for up to date information at any time.
Another event of interest is the Lyndon House Art Center Harvest Festival on October 23, 2014. This event is an annual celebration of old time crafts and rural life and gives participants a way to learn about some of Georgia’s history first hand. The demonstrations run from 9:30 AM until 1 PM. Club President Lou Kudon is seeking help from club members that would be interested in demonstrating the old time and pioneering tools. Contact Lou at lkudon@gmail.com.
Hope to see you there!
Wondering where the information about the Lyndon House “Full House” exhibition is? Lou said it was all here…
Info on the Lickskillet Artist’s Market is under the column to the right entitled “Upcoming Events”. Click on it and it should pop up another window. Lou’s email as well as a link to further info is in there. I haven’t received info on the Full House exhibit yet (although I’ll go look in my email now).
