November 2013 Meeting Reminder

ReminderOur next meeting of the CCW is Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Construction Technology Lab at Clarke Central HS beginning at 6 PM. The demonstrator for the month is Steve Pritchard. He will focus on burial urns!!! and will demonstrate his process for creating one. He will begin with a discussion of preferred wood species and selection, followed by how orientation within the log affects the outcome. Steve will then demonstrate how he hollows the selected piece using a captured boring bar system with a laser guide. The blank will have a section cut away so you can see what is happening inside as the piece is hollowed. He will then demonstrate how to create a threaded lid for the completed urn. He will also discuss shape considerations and how to measure the volume of an urn. He will demonstrate his turning on the Jet lathe and will have one of our mini lathes set up with the Baxter threading jig used to add the threads for the finial on the urn.

You can meet Steve at 5 PM at Jason’s Deli for dinner before the meeting.
