New Meeting Day and Location — Updated!
All, we are announcing a new meeting date and place, hopefully for the last time, at least for awhile. The latest meeting date is Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 6 PM. The meeting place is the Lyndon House, 293 Hoyt St, Athens, GA. So you ask, what is new about that. Well, I’m glad you asked. WE will be meeting in the Community Room there and not one of the small studios. Those that have attended one of our Saturday all day turning seminars will remember this room. It is spacious and well suited for a demonstration. Subsequent meetings will be on the first Tuesday each month; i.e. May 6, June 3, July 1 etc. Please change your calendar now and hope to see you there.
Please note that due to the change, there will not be a meeting at the end of March.
February 2014 Meeting Reminder
NOTE: Our usual room is unavailable tonight and therefore tonight’s meeting will have to be canceled. We apologize for the late notice; we were just now informed ourselves.
Fellow Turners, Our next meeting is Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Construction Technology Lab in Clarke Central High School beginning at 6 PM. The demonstrator for the month is Jerry Chandler, member and past president of the Chatahoochee Woodturners in Talmo, GA. He plans to demonstrate “Between Centers” turning on items that can be turned other than bowls. He has done this demonstration for other clubs where it has been well received by their members.
Remember, that 2014 dues are now due so, bring your check book, credit card or even cash. Dues are $30 for an individual membership or $35 for a family membership. What a bargain, so get the spouse and bring them for a night out together turning your favorite wood.
We continue to look for a new meeting place, so if you have any ideas or know of a place large enough for our club to meet and store our equipment let us know.
Look forward to seeing you there.
Happy New Year! (Jan 2014 meeting reminder)
The new year is here. Our first meeting for 2014 is Monday, January 27 at the Construction Technology Lab at Clarke Central High School beginning at 6 PM. The demonstrator for the month is John Moss and his wife Joy. John will be turning “bobbins” that are used by fabric weavers in making tapestries. His turning is to demonstrate the techniques he uses and not to focus so much on the bobbins. He will demonstrate the use of jigs in his turning as well as how to attach the metal cone to the front of the bobbins.
January is the month when dues are due, for lack of a better way to put it. As a reminder, individual dues are $30 per person or $35 for a family membership – a real bargain. You may pay with cash, check or credit card. Please come prepared to pay your dues.
The club executive committee recently met and we are planning big things for 2014, so we hope to see you there.
