October 2012 Meeting Reminder

ReminderThe October CCW meeting is coming up at 6:00PM Monday October 29, at the Clarke Central HS Construction Technology lab (see the meeting page of the website for directions). The demonstrator for the month is Jack Mincey, who was featured in the February 2011 issue of Woodturning Design.  His article is titled “Building a Slate Turkey Call”.  He will be showing us how to make turkey calls, as well as sea urchin Christmas ornaments.  He will also have materials for producing turkey calls as well as urchins for sale in case anyone is interested in making a purchase.  Please bring any hunter-friends that you have that may be interested in seeing how a turkey call is made!

September 2012 Meeting Reminder

The September CCW meeting is coming up at 6:00PM Monday September 24, at the Clarke Central HS Construction Technology lab (see the meeting page for directions). The demonstrator for the month is Ron Brown of Lawrenceville, GA. He will be turning a soup ladle, spatulas and other kitchen items. Also, he will cover other topics including “Kitchen spatulas on your wood lathe (and your band saw)”, “Acorns Gone Wild”, “Chatter Work Spinning Tops and How to Decorate Them”. We still can use some help at the Sandy Creek Folk Music Festival on Saturday October 6, 2012. Be sure to see Walter McRae Monday night if you can help. You can also contact Walter at wmcrae@uga.edu. We have decided to cancel club participation in the Lickskillit Arts Festival at the Lyndon House due lack of interest by members.

Also, remember this month the 3rd Bowl challenge, the ogee shape, is due. So, don’t forget to bring in your work for critique. The 4th Bowl challenge will be an enclosed curve with a rounded bottom. That ought to get your curiosity up.

August 2012 Meeting Reminder

The August 2012 CCW meeting will be held Monday, August 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Construction Lab at the Clarke Central High School.

Mark Sillay is our presenter/demonstrator for our August meeting.  His presentation will entail:

·       “Toothpick technology”– This is joining without the use of tennons for solid objects, hollow objects, and irregularly shaped objects.

·       Thread chasing using the Baxter threading machine.  Mark will demonstrate this machine for an insert and for a finial both to be screwed in.

For those interested, some members will be meeting Mark at Jason’s Deli at 4:45 p.m. on August 27, 2012 which will be prior to the meeting.  Please join us for supper.  The club will be picking up Mark’s tab for supper.
