Classic City Woodturners

The next meeting of the Classic City Woodturners is Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Lyndon House Art Center, 293 Hoyt St, Athens. The meeting begins at 6 PM. However, for this meeting you will want to come early to help set up and enjoy eating a sandwich with fellow club members. Sandwich fixings will be available to all; just bring your own drink and be there around 5:30 PM. Our demonstrator for the month is Dan Douthart. He is a member of the Gwinnett Woodworkers Association as well as several woodturning clubs. His demo will be on bottle stoppers. He will cover types, materials, supply sources, turning and finishing the bottle stopper. Reminder: if you haven’t paid your dues you are overdue. Please remember to bring your payment, cash, check or credit card. Individual dues are $30 and family dues are $35. Also, don’t forget to RSVP to the club Presidents Bar-B-Que on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Memorial Park, Shelter #1 from 11:00 Am till 2:00 PM. Meat and drinks will be provided and you bring side dishes.  Attached is a write-up that Dan has provided.

Fellow Woodturners, Our next meeting of the Classic City Woodturners is Tuesday, May 6, 2014 beginning at 6 PM at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 293 Hoyt St, Athens. Our demonstrator for the month is Jerry Chandler, former President and member of the Chattahoochee Woodturners. He was previously scheduled for our February meeting, which as you know was canceled due to the loss of our meeting place at Clarke Central HS. His demonstration will be turning between centers other than for bowls. This includes Tool handles, finials, and other spindle type turnings. He has presented this demo to other woodturner clubs and was well received.

You can meet Jerry prior to the meeting for supper at 5:00 PM at the Melting Point, 295 E Dougherty St, Athens. You can actually park and walk from the Lyndon House to the Melting Point.

There are several reminders for this meeting. If you haven’t paid your dues for 2014 they are payable now. If you didn’t complete the CCW Members Survey, please do so and bring with you or email to Jim Talley at 4talleys@bellsouth.net . We are also asking for you to continue to bring in items for the raffle. This may be wood( Logs, roughed blanks or milled), tools, gift certificates, books etc. If you still have library items checked out earlier, please return at this meeting.

Last months meeting was the first at the Lyndon House and was well attended. This is an excellent venue and accommodates the club well. Hope to see you there May 6.

All, we are announcing a new meeting date and place, hopefully for the last time, at least for awhile. The latest meeting date is Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 6 PM. The meeting place is the Lyndon House, 293 Hoyt St, Athens, GA. So you ask, what is new about that. Well, I’m glad you asked. WE will be meeting in the Community Room there and not one of the small studios. Those that have attended one of our Saturday all day turning seminars will remember this room. It is spacious and well suited for a demonstration. Subsequent meetings will be on the first Tuesday each month; i.e. May 6, June 3, July 1 etc. Please change your calendar now and hope to see you there.

Please note that due to the change, there will not be a meeting at the end of March.
