April 2018 CCW Meeting Reminder

ReminderFellow Woodturners, our next CCW meeting is Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 293 Hoyt St, Athens.  The meeting begins at 6 PM and concludes at 8:30 PM.  The demonstrator is our own Jim Talley doing off-center, multi axis turnings.  This should be of interest to all levels of turning experience.  We will be collecting 2018 dues which are $30 for an individual or $35 for a family.  Remember to bring a friend and something for the raffle.

Also, please see the next post down, click on the document link, complete the questions and email them to Justin.

Moving Forward

After the March 6, 2018 meeting to determine the future of the club, it was decided to continue .  The next meeting will be on April 3, 2018 at the Lyndon House Arts Center beginning at 6 PM.  The club will begin collecting 2018 dues of $30 per individual or $35 per family.  It was also decided to initiate a survey to gauge the interest and solicit input for the continued future of the club.  It is important for you to participate in scheduled meetings.  Increased attendance at monthly meetings is one of the main goals that the club feels will be the answer to many concerns.  So, participate now by responding to the attached survey and email your response to me at Justin.reese@charter.net .  More on the demonstration for April will follow.

March 2018 Brainstorming Meeting

Fellow Woodturners, On March 6, 2018 you are invited to attend a brainstorming meeting to gauge whether this group wants to start the club back up and where do we go from here.  The meeting will be at our regular time and place – 6 PM at the Lyndon House Arts Center.  Plan to come, bring your ideas and participate in this important process.  We need to have a good turn-out that demonstrates the enthusiasm and willingness to be members and possibly serve as an officer to keep the club going. Look forward to seeing you there.

We Need YOUR Help!

Fellow Woodturners, as most of you are aware, the CCW has been seeking club officers for some time. However, no one has come forward to volunteer to lead the club. Therefore, unless someone comes forward to be club President, the club will become inactive for the time being. Were someone to take this position, there are others who will support and assist them. Currently the club has a VP, Secretary and Treasurer as well as others that are willing to help. Therefore, further meetings are suspended at least for the next six months or until a final decision is made concerning the status of the club.

October 2017 CCW Reminder

Fellow Woodturners, the next meeting of the Classic City Woodturners is Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 293 Hoyt St, Athens. The meeting begins at 6 PM and concludes by 8:45 PM.

For our October 3, 2017 meeting Don Russell is our demonstrator. Don has demonstrated for our club several times in the past, the last time being in 2010 (I think). He has not demonstrated for any club in the last few years and is now getting back on the “demonstration circuit”.

For our evening Don will be turning one of his polychromatic Christmas ornaments. Now is the time to be getting your Christmas orders for family and friends and this ornament by Don is a very popular item. He has presented this demonstration to the our group before about 7-8 years ago. For those who have seen it this will be a good refresher and a good motivator to start turning for Christmas. For those who have not seen this demonstration you are in for a treat and will leave with the idea of turning several for Christmas presents.

We have asked Don to bring several of his kits where the polychromatic blanks are already glued up in case you do not want to go to the trouble of cutting and gluing your own. He will also have a number of his tea light turning kits. These too are very popular as gifts.

I encourage all members to be there and give Don a warm welcome back to the “circuit” as I call it. Bring a guest and also bring some wood for the raffle.

We are very fortunate to have Don for our October meeting and we should make a good impression by having a good turnout. Summer is over, kids are back to school and as we prepare for the upcoming holiday season, this is a good way to get lined up for your holiday turning.

For those who are interested our library has several CDs of Don’s demonstration and we have the complete set of the collaborative CDs done by Don and Ron Brown. These can be checked out and will provide an excellent way to review the demonstration at home while preparing to turn either the Christmas ornament or the tea light.

Remember to invite and bring a friend and also bring some wood or other material for our raffle.
