February 2013 Meeting Reminder
The regular monthly meeting of the CCW is Monday February 25, 2013 at Clarke Central HS Technology Lab. The meeting begins at 6 PM. If you would like to meet the demonstrator, Frank Bowers, early,he will be at Jason’s Deli on Alps Road at 4:45 PM for dinner. His program for February will include methods for holding bowls and other items that are not turned between centers. He will demonstrate methods for mounting green bowl blanks using a chuck with a screw. He will also include alternative methods such as face plates and how to do this safely. He will then turn a green bowl that has been mounted. He will discuss drying methods for green or wet bowls followed by finish turning a rough turned bowl that has been allowed to dry.
Don’t forget that 2013 dues of $30 per individual or $35 per family are now due. Bring your check book or cash.
January 2013 Meeting Reminder
The CCW will meet on Monday January, 28, 2013 at the Clarke Central High School Technology Lab at 6 PM. This is our first meeting of the new year – 2013. Hope everyone had a great holiday and is ready to get back to turning some wood. Our demonstrator for the month is Don Russell who will be reviewing and demonstrating the cutting procedures for segmented turning. He will then go through making Christmas ornaments using a segmented blank he has prepared. He will also spend some time turning tea lights. He has been featured in a Dale Nish book on bird houses. A copy of this book will be passed around at the meeting.A special invite is being made by our new president, Lou Kudon to meet the demonstrator and enjoy some fellowship and pizza (provided by Lou) beginning at 5:30 PM at the meeting place. Bring your own drink. Plan on being there.
December 2012 Christmas Party Reminder!
The annual club Christmas Party is set for Monday, December 10, 2012 at the St. James United Methodist Church, 111 West Lake Dr in Athens. Plan to arrive between 6 and 6:30 PM and bring a covered dish (with food) to share with fellow club members. Drinks, paper products and plastic ware will be provided. Also, be sure to bring raffle items as this is usually one of the largest raffles of the year. There are several items that previous demonstrators have left with that will be included. There will also be a gift exchange for those that want to participate. Bring an item you have turned or something you have purchased related to turning.
November 2012 Meeting Reminder
The regular monthly CCW meeting will be Monday, November 26th at Clarke Central HS in the Construction Technology Lab. Remember that at this meeting you will be voting for the 2013 Officers. The nominating committee gave us the following slate:

Vice President – Charles Armentrout
Treasurer – Rob Price
Secretary – Justin Reese
Nominations from the floor will be entertained if the nominating member has determined that the nominee is willing to serve as witnessed by at least one other member if the nominee is absent.
The demonstrator for the month is member Jim Talley. His program will be on the use of epoxies mixed and impregnated into various woods including burls, fractured wood and other situations where there may be voids in the piece of wood. He will focus on safety in turning and the mixing of epoxies, which epoxies can be used and the need to maintain sharp tools when turning wood impregnated with epoxies. He will not be mixing epoxies due to time constraints and other factors, but he will have several items in various stages of prep and will demo turning of a piece of impregnated wood into the final item. There will be a handout that will provide basic info on epoxies and where supplies can be obtained.
The fourth bowl challenge, an enclosed curve with a rounded bottom, will be critiqued by Jim Underwood.

October 2012 Meeting Reminder
The October CCW meeting is coming up at 6:00PM Monday October 29, at the Clarke Central HS Construction Technology lab (see the meeting page of the website for directions). The demonstrator for the month is Jack Mincey, who was featured in the February 2011 issue of Woodturning Design. His article is titled “Building a Slate Turkey Call”. He will be showing us how to make turkey calls, as well as sea urchin Christmas ornaments. He will also have materials for producing turkey calls as well as urchins for sale in case anyone is interested in making a purchase. Please bring any hunter-friends that you have that may be interested in seeing how a turkey call is made!
